The new point of sale system for Dunn Lumber offers an online component, which is accessed through the Dunn Lumber web site. These pages contain a second menu of options that pertain only to the online product catalog and user account information.

Online Catalog
The user is presented with 33 main product categories as image icons (the text labels are not links). This is in addition to a drop-down list of all product categories. The drop-down list will be modified in the future, but at this point the user will find all products listed in the drop-down.
Due to peculiarities in the search engine, the system works best by using a drill down user-directed process rather than only by a keyword search. This means the user clicks on the icon of the general product area, which will open another index of icons where the user selects another icon until the specific product group has been found.
By a combination of Drill Down and Keyword, the user can find a product in 3 clicks.

At this time the user can enter into the keyword search 2x4 and hit enter. The search result will return only the boards that are 2x4 |
Shopping Cart
The shopping cart is the holding area for product selected. It is called a shopping cart even though the contents may be used for a Quote rather than an Order. Both a quote and an order will have to be processed by Dunn Lumber before they are official. However, the unprocessed quote will appear in the users account area (if the user has an account) shortly after the quote was submitted. Orders will still be considered 'requested' and won't be available until action is taken by Dunn.
The shopping cart works as all online shopping carts do except that no credit card orders are accepted at this time. If a user has no account an order can be placed, but a Dunn representative will contact the user for payment information.
Shopping cart contents will persist from session to session for logged in users. If the user is not logged in the shopping cart contents will persist until the browser is closed, at which point the session will end and the contents will be reset to empty.
Order/Quote
To access the shopping cart to place an order or quote click on the text Items in cart next to the green icon of a shopping cart. This will open a view of the contents of the shopping cart.
The product list can be edited at this time. Each line item can be edited as to quantity or deleted. The double arrow icon next to the quantity box is to click to update the edited amounts for a new total. The red X at the end of the line item is to delete the entire line.
The Place Order Now button actually takes the user to a screen where the cart contents can be set as a Quote or an Order. Even though it doesn't say so at this time, to get a quote the user has to select the Place Order Now button.

Transaction Type The user selects if this is an Order or a Quote.
- Sales Type
The user selects if the order is to be delivered or picked up at a store.
Please note that the Will Call location is set as a default to the user's zip code and will be printed on the official quote or order, but is not visible at this time. If there are any doubts as to where the Will Call location will be please call Dunn Lumber.
- Date Requested
The date the order is to be delivered or picked up.
- Purchase Order Number / Your Ref
This is provided for the User. The information will ride with the order or quote, and may be anything the user finds useful for tracking purposes.
- Delivery Address
If the user has selected delivery, this is the address to deliver the order. However, if the user has selected Will Call, this address defaults to the Customer Address and is ignored.
- Invoice Address
This is the billing address for this order. For a logged in user this will default to the user's invoice address information. There is a button to use the invoice address for the delivery address.
- Special Instructions
This is a text area for added information on this order.
- Summary
Subtotal of the line items before tax Tax on the items (if a user is tax exempt it will be reflected here) Total including tax
 Continue will open detailed screen for the order/quote.
Quote/Order Detail
If the order is for Delivery, the Delivery Address is listed first at the left.
If the order is for Will Call, the address at the left will merely be the same as the invoice address and will be titled Sales Address.
The entire contents of the order are listed line by line for one final check.
If approved the user can Complete Quote or Complete Order by clicking the green button at the bottom.
Special Note: Print Prior to Completing Order
It may take up to 24 hours for a quote or order to be processed by Dunn Lumber. It is advised that the order be printed prior to clicking the Complete button. Once the complete button is clicked the user will have to wait until the order shows up in the account area to view it. Unlike some online order systems an order confirmation is not emailed to the user.
Accounts
Users with Accounts have access to the Your Account features. The account features are a window on the point of sale system. All the interaction between the user and Dunn Lumber can be viewed in the Your Account area. However, this data is one way. It is data from the point of sale system. It is provided for viewing only and the user cannot make changes to any of the data reported here.

- Quotes
List of Quotes User has submitted to Dunn Lumber for action. Items in a quote can be copied to the shopping cart.
- Orders
List of Orders submitted to Dunn Lumber for Action. Items in an order can be copied to the shopping cart. Â Orders requested by customer but not yet picked up or delivered can be altered.
- Invoices
Invoices for the user as reported by the POS System. An invoice is an a final order and cannot be changed.
- Credit Notes
- Products Purchased
Products purchased by the user. The default store shown is the default Will Call store for the user.
- Statements
Statement is a summary of user invoices.
- Addresses
List of addresses used for quotes or orders. Note: This is not a user editable listing.
- Contacts
List of contacts taken from the addresses for quotes and orders. Note: This is not a user editable listing.
- Uploaded Files
Files uploaded by Dunn Lumber for the user, scanned copies of invoices or the like. The user cannot upload files to this area. |
